Library Haul!

Hello everyone!

How are you all? What have you been up to?

I, probably like the rest of you have a substantial pile of books sitting on my shelves waiting to be read, but the pull of the book shop is just to strong and the smell of new books just too good to leave be.

HOWEVER, If you read my latest post, you’ll know that I have just finished university meaning I. HAVE. NO. MONEY. FOR. BOOKS. Which is awful but what can you do? (read the unread books you just spoke about, that would be clever).

So to get over my need to go out and buy new books, I have started using my local libraries again.. I have to admit it’s not great. The libraries in my local area do not get up to date books very often, and the Young Adult section is pretty dire if I’am honest. I have tried to branch out and look in the other sections of the library, but they are laid out alphabetically by author, and when you are trying to find a new fantasy or sci-fi, the author name doesn’t tell you much.

That being said I have has some luck over the past while, below are the 4 books I have found on this trip that caught my eye. On of them will be a reread but I have been wanting to reread it for AGES!

Book Haul:

Book 1: The Smell of other peoples houses

Author: Bonnie- Sue Hitchcock

19370304. sy475

In Alaska, 1970, being a teenager here isn’t like being a teenager anywhere else. Ruth has a secret that she can’t hide forever. Dora wonders if she can ever truly escape where she comes from, even when good luck strikes. Alyce is trying to reconcile her desire to dance, with the life she’s always known on her family’s fishing boat. Hank and his brothers decide it’s safer to run away than to stay home—until one of them ends up in terrible danger.

Book 2: The Shadow Queen

Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She’ll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman…and bring her Lorelai’s heart.

Book 3: We Were Liars

Author: E. Lockhart

Summary: Taken from goodreads

A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

Book 4: Flatland

Author: Edwin A. Abbott
Summary: Taken from goodreads

This masterpiece of science (and mathematical) fiction is a delightfully unique and highly entertaining satire that has charmed readers for more than 100 years. The work of English clergyman, educator and Shakespearean scholar Edwin A. Abbott (1838-1926), it describes the journeys of A. Square [sic – ed.], a mathematician and resident of the two-dimensional Flatland, where women-thin, straight lines-are the lowliest of shapes, and where men may have any number of sides, depending on their social status.

A bit of a random bunch but hopefully it will keep me going for the next while!
Happy reading,
Lish x

  1. Libraries can sometimes be so helpful in finding some gems. That’s actually where I found the smell of other people’s houses a couple years ago and absolutely adored it! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  2. I love the library! I do a frequent book haul too ❤️ I haven’t read We Were Liars but I’ve read some really great reviews on it over the years. It somehow fell down the rabbit hole that is my TBR list 😂 I hope you enjoy the books!
